Respond faster in emergencies: how Moba enhanced safety

Moba

At Moba, a company globally known as a manufacturer of egg grading machines, around 650 employees work at the Barneveld location. In such a dynamic and technical work environment, safety is not a secondary matter but an absolute priority. Stefano den Dulk, team leader for electrical installations at Moba, explains how they have organized safety.

From WhatsApp to a professional solution

“In the past, we used WhatsApp to alert our emergency response team,” Stefano explains. “But it just didn’t work well enough. Many people keep their phones on silent, which meant alerts were seen too late or not at all. In emergencies, every second counts, so that was not a workable solution.

That’s why Moba decided to switch to MultiBel, a safety platform specifically designed to send fast and clear alerts in emergencies.

With the new system, they immediately integrated the accessible restroom into the alerting solution as well. This was important because their biggest concern was: what if someone falls there? In such a case, the person pulls the emergency cord, but if no one hears the alarm, nothing happens. The connection with the accessible restroom was one of the reasons the emergency buttons were implemented. There are now 21 buttons installed at the headquarters and another 14 across other locations.

They pressed the emergency button and within 20 seconds many emergency response workers were present.

A Life-Saving Situation

Stefano recalls an incident where the difference became clear:
“A colleague suddenly became unwell and lost feeling in his legs. They pressed the emergency button, and within 20 seconds, many emergency responders were present. He received help quickly and was taken to the hospital. He is doing well now. By comparison, when we used WhatsApp before, it could sometimes take up to three minutes before anyone even read the alert.”

This example demonstrates how crucial fast communication is in emergencies.

Continuous Practice, Evaluation, and Improvement

Safety at Moba is an ongoing process. The technical department, led by Stefano, consists of mechanical and electrical specialists. Regular emergency response (BHV) trainings are held to maintain high readiness levels. CPR trainings, in collaboration with a company doctor, take place once a year.
All incidents are thoroughly evaluated to learn what went well and what can be improved.

Two-Way Radios Remain Important

Despite the advantages of MultiBel as a cloud solution, Moba still relies on two-way radios in their operations. “Due to the noise on the shop floor, it can sometimes be difficult to hear smartphone alerts clearly,”Stefano explains. “Radios provide additional clarity in communication.”

Safety as a Shared Responsibility

The success of MultiBel at Moba is no coincidence. It reflects a company culture where safety is taken seriously and where technology is used to strengthen that culture.

“You can’t really ignore a MultiBel alert, and if you do, there will be a follow-up conversation. We take it very seriously. At the same time, you notice that when employees see the company prioritizing safety, they are eager to contribute as well. We are proud of everyone’s engagement and thank all employees for their commitment.”
