The Cologne Zoo is one of the oldest and most popular zoos in Germany. Around 10,000 animals from more than 850 different species call the zoological garden in the Cathedral City their home, making it one of the most diverse zoos in all of Europe.
Its guiding principle: “Passionate about animals.”

One of the main attractions is the Elephant Park, opened in 2004 — the largest of its kind north of the Alps. The combination of historic buildings, modern facilities, and beautifully designed park landscapes gives the Cologne Zoo its unique charm and enduring appeal.

Daily feeding shows featuring sea lions, meerkats, and raccoons, a spectacular bird of prey flight show, exciting playgrounds, and delicious dining options make every visit a perfect day out.
In addition, the Zoo School offers a comprehensive educational program for kindergartens and schools, helping children learn about animals and nature in an engaging way.

The MultiBel system is used at Cologne Zoo in situations where fast and reliable information distribution is essential.
This includes staff alerts during weather events, such as approaching storms or thunderstorms.
As in all leisure facilities, notifications about spontaneous incidents must be communicated quickly and precisely to staff.

In the event of an alarm, animal keepers coordinate their actions, gaining a shared understanding of the situation and agreeing on follow-up measures to limit potential damage.
When facing natural hazards or other critical situations, all zoo staff are alerted and informed.

MultiBel for Crisis Communication

The modular MultiBel information system is also used at Cologne Zoo for crisis communication.
In an active scenario, recipients are instructed to switch to the appropriate walkie-talkie channel, after which communication takes place via the push-to-talk walkie-talkie function.
