Lone worker protection, IT incident alerting, and fire alarm integration
The DKMS Life Science Lab in Dresden, with 170 employees, is regarded as one of the most innovative and efficient laboratories for HLA typing worldwide, operating according to the latest scientific standards.
Every day, up to 7,000 cheek swab samples from DKMS donors are analyzed here for 22 tissue characteristics – also known as HLA markers – as well as a range of additional genetic markers. This process, known as typing, is essential for identifying suitable stem cell donors for patients with blood cancer.
MultiBel at DKMS Life Science Lab gGmbH
At the DKMS Life Science Lab in Dresden, MultiBel is used to protect genotyping specialists working within the lab’s 1,500 m² facility.
When only a few lab employees are present, there is no direct contact between colleagues in the automated laboratory, where robots handle most of the processes.
The site, located in a former Bundesbank building, extends over several basement levels up to twelve meters underground. These areas house not only the server rooms in an oxygen-reduced environment, but also the storage facilities for stem cell donor samples.
To ensure the safety of employees working alone, each staff member is equipped with a smartphone and can activate MultiBel’s lone worker protection feature via the app.
In addition, DKMS uses the MultiBel alerting system for IT component failures and the forwarding of fire alarms.
